What “automated” actually looks like

One real onboarding flow — the kind I build and document step by step.

Live workflow
  1. Trigger

    Candidate marked “Hired”

    in your ATS (e.g. Manatal)

  2. Action

    Generate & send the contract

    via Deel or Gusto

  3. Action

    Provision email, Slack & tools

    via a no-code automation

Why this site is different

Most "best HR software" pages summarize. I test.

Tested, not summarized

I create real accounts, build real workflows, and screenshot what actually happens — then publish the metric I measured (e.g. screening 180 applications: 4h → 22m).

Honest comparisons

Clear "best for [use case]" verdicts, transparent scoring, and an affiliate disclosure above every recommendation. Commissions never change the rankings.

Step-by-step blueprints

Copy-paste automation recipes for onboarding, candidate screening, and people-ops workflows — the exact setup, not vague advice.

Who's behind this

Real experience, tested in public

I’ve run structured hiring end to end — writing the role, screening with an ATS, two-stage interviews, a graduate-intake program for a large organization — and I designed the onboarding automation that fired the moment a candidate was marked Hired: contract, IT and account provisioning, the first-week plan, the welcome, and the feedback loop. Here I rebuild those same flows in the affordable tools a small team can actually run, and document what I built, what broke, and what it saved — tested with my own accounts, no sponsorships.

  • Designed enterprise onboarding automation (Hired → contract → provisioning → welcome)
  • Ran multi-stage hiring, incl. a graduate-intake program for a large organization
  • Rebuilds the same flows in affordable tools — tested with my own accounts, no sponsorships

Answers

HR automation, straight answers

Is HR automation worth it for a small team?

Yes — small teams see the biggest relative gains, because the same person handles hiring, onboarding, and admin. Automating screening, scheduling, and onboarding typically reclaims several hours a week without adding headcount.

What is the difference between an ATS and recruitment automation?

An ATS (applicant tracking system) is the database that stores candidates and jobs. Recruitment automation is the layer that acts on it — auto-screening, scheduling, follow-ups, and moving candidates between stages without manual work.

How is this site independent?

I’m not owned by, or sponsored by, any HR vendor. I buy or trial tools with my own accounts, test them hands-on, and disclose affiliate links above every recommendation. Commissions never change a ranking.

Which HR tools have affiliate programs that pay creators outside the US?

Several do, via networks like PartnerStack and Rewardful — including Deel, Gusto, Manatal, Breezy HR, Recruitee, and Freshworks. Payout rails such as direct bank deposit, PayPal, and Wise work for creators in many countries.

Do you actually test the tools, or just summarize features?

I test them. Each review documents the workflow I built, includes annotated screenshots, and reports at least one metric I measured myself — not a paraphrase of the vendor’s marketing page.

One short, personal email a week: a workflow I built, a tool that surprised me, and what I’d actually buy — the kind of note you won’t get from an AI summary.
